Tip #1 Find Your Inspiration
Sometimes inspiration doesn’t hit us right away and there are a few reasons why. Focusing on too much at a time can be overwhelming. Rather than looking at the whole room, think of it in sections. Plan your room by the section, like, focus on the rug, art, or certain pieces of decor first. Start small and the rest will fall into place. Another idea is to plan your room around a color that really inspires you. Pick a color that speaks to you more than most colors. This helps the planning process go much smoother.
Another great tip I recommend is getting your hands on everything you can get. Look at home decorating magazines, browse online, use a website like Pinterest to help you pick out ideas for your room. This will most likely help you get to the root of how you want your remodeling project to turn out.
Tip #2 Find Your Style
Part of finding your style is the journey. Don’t be intimidated by trying something new. If your color palate at home is dull and neutral, go bold. If you’re not ready to go bold yet, spice it your neutral zone with a few bold accent pieces. Maybe you’ve been into more contemporary and modern interiors. Why not try something vintage? Whatever style you pick for the home, you’ll be able to put your own personal spin on it, so why not keep it fresh and try something new?
And for the intimidated folks out there, you can download a room planner from IKEA. It gives you a 3D visual rendering of what your place could look like.

Tip #3 Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle
Whether you’re remodeling on a budget, or if money isn’t an issue, there’s still no point in being wasteful. Rather than buy a new couch, why not try out a slip cover? Or you could go all out and DIY reupholster it yourself. Maybe repaint the accent pieces in your home? Refinish that end table? Repaint that dresser? Change up the paint or wallpaper in the home. Got any extra wood palates or crates lying around? Turn them into bookshelves, a garden, or extra storage shelves. Sometimes little fixes like that are all we need.
Tip #4 Look at Your Lighting
You might not realize it, but the lighting in your home can drastically change the ambiance. You can tell crappy lighting when you see it. You probably don’t feel too happy either. Bad lighting can feel daunting and weigh us down. If possible, utilize natural light as much as possible. Change up the window treatments in your home to maximize the lighting. Also, you can upgrade the lighting fixtures in the home.
Adding pendants, recess lighting, chandeliers, wall scones or an assortment of fun lamps will give your space an instant facelift. You can’t imagine the impact that stylish lighting can have on a room until you see the transformation!
