It’s DIY Friday and to kick it off we have this fantastic marbled glassware project.
This is perfect for adding a splash of color to your next party.

This project comes from Honestly… WTF? and let tell you… For yielding such polished results this is an incredibly easy project for the weekend. So easy that you could probably do this with the children (with supervision, obviously).
What you need:
- flat bottomed glassware
- painters tape
- nail polish (Honestly… WTF? used six different colors)
- clear nail polish
- plastic container (use one you don’t mind throwing away or reusing for this project)
- nail polish remover
How to do it:
1. Mask the bottom.
You’re going to take the painters tape and then wrap it around the bottom sides of the glass so that only the very bottom is exposed.
2. Layer the color.
In a glass or bowl of water, take your nail polish colors and start dripping them in the water one at a time. Take one drop, then place the next color drop in to the center of the first one. Repeat the process until you have your desired pattern and colors. Using a toothpick helps to manipulate the paint into more interesting designs. You can stick the toothpick in the center and pull out to the edge and keep repeating. This helps marble the nail polish.
3. Submerge your bottom.
The bottom of your glass that is. Let the nail polish collect around the sides and then slowly and carefully pull out the glass. You might get air bubbles which is normal. And before you move on to the next glass make sure to clear out excess nail polish from the water.
4. Let it dry.
It’s extremely important to let the nail polish dry completely. This might take some time, so be patient! After it’s dry apply a coat of clear nail polish.
5. Finishing touches.
To finish your marbled glassware take off the painters tape after everything is dry and use nail polish remover with a Q-tip to touch up the sides.
– Note: These aren’t dishwasher safe and should be hand washed only.
And voila! You have a great set of glassware for your next party! I absolutely love this idea. Aside from the fact that these look really modern and cool… I like that I have the freedom to pick whatever color I want. So, that makes it so much easier to make it match the colors of your home. Plus, the simplicity is amazing. There is a simple elegance to these glass pieces. And the fact that anything with a flat glass bottom is fair game is so awesome! What do you think? Are you going to try this out?
