Why would you decorate with living indoor plants?
Because they’re so, so good for you.
- One, they’re great filler pieces. If your corner is looking bare or needs some height and you don’t know what new decor piece is going to go just right, think about a real plant. It can stand alone or be on a stand, but either way it will add color and interest in an easy, natural, not-too-bold way.
- They clean the air. Did you know that indoor air can be 5-7 times more polluted than outside? Real plants recycle the water you give them and put it back into the air – purifying it and reducing the chance of illness. They also can reduce headaches and dry, scratchy throats.
- They reduce noise. Doesn’t seem like they would have this miracle capability, but they really do reduce noise by absorbing the sound waves and diffusing them. Thank you, mother nature!
- Probably most important – they are calming. Living plants can reduce stress levels, pulse rates and blood pressure. This is especially true for people who sit at a computer for at least 4 hours a day. (And really, who doesn’t?)
Research shows that all of these things are true. I didn’t read the research (but I did learn it in my Horticulture class in college, if that counts) but I found this information on Stagetecture, and you can read more here.
